What are hreflang tags?

Hreflang tags tell Google which language and regional version of a page to show to which users. Without them, Google might treat your translated pages as duplicate content or serve the wrong language. The golden rule is reciprocity: every version must point back to every other, including x-default.

What is x-default for?
x-default is the fallback page shown when no language/region matches the user — often a language selector or your primary version. It's optional but recommended.
Should I use el or el-GR?
Use the plain language code (el, en) if the content targets all speakers of that language. Add a region (el-GR) only when you have genuinely region-specific versions.
